Day 6 Tuesday 27 January Buenos Aires Argentina

Another transit day with a morning flight to Buenos Aires.  We had free time in the afternoon to have a walk around.  It was hot and sunny for our walk to the Plaza de Mayo, considered the centre of the city with its Presidential Palace.  This plaza has been the scene of the most momentous events in Argentine history, as well as the largest popular demonstrations in the country.

The Piramide de Mayo (May Pyramid) is Buenos Aires' first national monument. It commemorates the May Revolution of 1811.

Presidential Palace.  Plenty of elegant architecture highlighting the city's Spanish, French and Italian heritage.

Monument to General Manuel Belgrano, a hero of the Argentine War of Independence.  He also designed the Argentine flag.

Interestingly, this is the Metropolitan Cathedral.

Stephen was looking forward to visiting the National History Museum. After a long and sweaty walk, we arrived to find out it was closed on Tuesdays !!  However, the best-ever strawberry thickshake from a nearby MacDonalds was some compensation.
