Today we join the Backroad’s Battle of Britain tour. We have eight
other tour buddies. Of the ten of us, 6 are Australian, two from NZ and two
from Chicago. Today it’s off to the Churchill War Rooms. We did see them in
2015 and apparently the visitor numbers have skyrocketed after the films
Churchill and The Darkest Hour. There were no queues when we went in 2015 and now they were
crowded as it is a small space.
Churchill proved to be quite a reasonable artist.
Off to
the IWM (or Imperial War Museum). This museum only covers conflicts from WW1
onwards. Again, we have seen it before. The Holocaust exhibit was very powerful.
As we left London, we found another ridiculously named pub...The Walrus and the Carpenter.
Tonight we stop in Cambridge for a
walking tour. We were running about 30 minutes late and our tour guide was able
to explain comprehensively about the history of Cambridge.
We had dinner with our tour buddies, the oldest of whom is 94. No I am
not joking. He is remarkably spry and although his reflexes are a bit slow, I
thrashed him in ping pong...that’s not true…I almost thrashed him…I’ll beat him
next time. He really is quite a character. He lost his wife 18 months ago and
is travelling with his daughter.
Happy birthday to Debra and Michael.
