Day 39 6 September New York to Niagara Falls

Today was an early start and we arrived at Penn Station just after 6AM for our 7.15 train. We found with some assistance where to check in with the Maple Leaf train to Niagara Falls. We found that the check-in was frequently unattended, and we had to assist people in what to do or where to go. There was a sight impaired lady. I was happy that they put her at the head of the queue.

As it was, the train was delayed by 30 minutes but at least it left, and we didn't need a bus replacement service,

As our train followed the Hudson River upstream, we had glimpses of West Point that was very impressive, but I was slow on the camera as I didn't think the train line went near the river there.

Here is the Saugerties Lighthouse in the middle of the river. It's now a B&B and was built in 1869. replacing the one constructed in 1835.

This is the area where FDR had his Hyde Park (On the Hudson), certainly a nice river. This is the ruined Bannerman Castle on an island in the Hudson River. I would like to tell you an exotic story, but it was used as a second-hand military warehouse.

We got off into Canada but there was a delay, as the computer wasn't loading at customs and Immigration. They weren't interested in our luggage; I think they just do more targeted searches of tourists.

After 12 hours+ on the train we felt that our hotel room and bed were moving, a residue effect from the train.

After arriving at the hotel, we went for a walk down to the falls. It was truly spectacular.
