We had an early start as we had to leave the hotel at 5.30 am to catch our 6.30 am train to Bergen.
It was a scenic route that took 7 hours, but not quite as spectacular as the Rocky Mountaineer in Canada. A bit more snow would have made the photos far more interesting. They provided us with a breakfast and a lunch bag. We also had coffee vouchers for the train, but a couple of our cruise buddies came back claiming it was undrinkable.
We
arrived at the ship and boarding all went well until they discovered a wine
stopper in my luggage which might be classed as a pointed metal object. I was
allowed to take it on as it was under the length limit.
We met our cabin steward, who is called Muhammed, and he is from southern Borneo. He is married with two children and another on the way. All the staff are super friendly.
We went to the port talk which gave some history of Bergen.
We had a lovely
meal in the restaurant and met some Australians from Ballina who were doing
similar things to us that we had planned in 2020. After dinner we went to a violin
performance by award winning Tor Jaran Apold. He was very good indeed and
despite having had three red wines, I found his performance was very engaging.
