Day 9 4 August Oslo

Today our run of good weather came to an end, awakening to cloudy rain laden skies from our 23rd floor hotel room. I finally had some French champagne for breakfast. The waiter apologised for it being non-alcoholic. Breakfast seemed a little busier this morning as there are meant to be 145 Viking guests in residence.

We took a bus tour with our fellow cruisers. We visited Vigeland Park which is a sculpture park with the circle of life as its centrepiece. Sure, the fountain is circular but why is the pond a rectangle? The weather was threatening but it wasn't too bad in the end.

The artist I think had a few issues. Lots of reptiles "hugging" people.

Next was the Maritime Museum which had a Norweigan archaeologist explain how boats are made in the traditional Viking manner using clinker construction.

They have laid the keel but she said it would take about 12 months to finish and test, of course not a full time thing.

After hopping on a bus headed in the wrong direction, we realised my mistake and decided to walk. We visited the Akershus Fortress
or Castle but were too late to see the military museum as it was closing.

The view from the fort.

We then walked to the Munch Museum but I couldn’t find my three-day pass so we missed seeing his famous
Scream. We had seen some of his earlier work in the National Museum.
Here is their Opera House.

Oslo was lovely but didn’t quite have the vibe of Stockholm, perhaps they get less sunlight.
