Day 17 13 August Honningsvåg to Svalbard

Today was a sailing day as we left the Norwegian coastline, and we are heading towards Svalbard. We had a talk on the music of ABBA which taught us a couple of things that we did not know. It was also a detailed investigation of how their music worked using the song Fernando.  Very interesting.

We have been travelling slowly and the seas have been calm. We did go past Bear Island. The Cruise Director said it was the first time he had seen it in four years as it is usually covered in fog. It was inhabitated until European nations used it as a base of sealing/whaling etc.

There was a talk too on the fragile nature of wildlife in Svalbard. Tonight, continuing on the ABBA theme, there was a musical tribute to the band that was really good and featured some of their new songs.
