Day 19 Monday 12 June 2017

We have awoken in the Grand Canyon.  We had breakfast at one of the hotels on the rim.  Called the Blue Angel Hotel, our tour guide Tara sat with us at breakfast and we had a long chat with us.  She has been with Scenic for 10 years and was telling us the story of how she met the owner of the company.  She was in training and at the hotel she asked if she asked if he was with Scenic and offered him advice and any assistance with the tour if he needed it, even though he was not on her actual tour.  She met him days later and asked him how he was going and chatted away.  She received some strange looks from her fellow employees.  They did let her know that he was the owner! Tara also tells us that she met Colin Firth in a lift. Who is jealous now?

Today, we visited a gallery that featured the two brothers who first filmed the canyon and whom were quite amazing.  I am surprised that no one has made a film about them.  We took the free shuttle bus to Hermit’s Rest and worked our way through some of the lookouts.  We did not see any of the incredibly endangered Californian Condors but they are out there as one of our tour buddies snapped a photo of one.  We were scheduled to fly over the Grand Canyon today but it was too windy’

Thus is what we saw.

Words are inadequate.

That night we enjoyed a luxurious meal at the El Tovar Hotel.  Part of the Chevy Chase film National Vacation was filmed here. Lots of dead animals on the walls. It was a great way to finish the day.
