DAY 30 2 July Madrid - Segovia - Salamanca

We traveled to the fortified city of Segovia and saw the First Century AD aqueduct and the magnificent Alcazar fortress.

There were some interesting meats on sale. We had to wait for the autopsy results to actually determine what they were.

We passed the ancient walls of Ávila, en route to Salamanca. Quite spectacular.

In Salamanca we saw some of the golden stone buildings the city is famous for, including the handsomely arcaded Plaza Mayor, the honey-coloured cathedral and the 16th Century university buildings. We enjoyed a tapas and a glass of sangria – well somebody had to.

Lots of ham to buy.

Meat pies - Spanish style - called Hornazo (ham + chiroza + egg = heartburn)

The astronaut surprisingly among the sculpture.

The Casa De Las Conchos (shell house), at about 2.30 PM shadows are cast that touch the shell beneath, creating an interesting shadow grid pattern.

Salamanca university celebrated its 801st birthday this year!
