This morning we left to visit the ancient city of
Córdoba. We saw the Roman bridge that dates back to the First Century AD. Our
local guide took us through the magnificent Mezquita-Cathedral De Cordoba. This
was originally a Mosque that was converted to a church and was quite
extraordinary. Photographs do not do it justice.
We also went to the old Jewish
Quarter and the Jewish synagogue. Most Jews were forced to either convert to Christianity or leave Spain under the rule of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand.
With time to spare we visited the local archaeological museum. They discovered a Roman theatre underneath and so constructed the museum above it. It had quite a good collection of local artefacts, and as it was another very hot day, their air-conditioning was much appreciated.
In the evening we had dinner, wine and an entertaining
and fiery flamenco show.
