DAY 36 8 JULY Gibraltar, Costa del Sol and Mijas.

Today it’s off to Gibraltar, part of mainland Spain that’s been an overseas territory under British control since 1704. Visiting the Rock of Gibraltar and St. Michael’s Cave to see the Barbary Apes, legendary guardians of the colony.

Africa and the Atlas Mountains in the background.

Here is one of our tour buddies Rex having an ill-advised close contact with a Barbary Ape. Amazingly we knew Rex, not by name, but reputation, from our 2015 Gallipoli Cruise. We remembered seeing this guy go on stage and do a duet with Kate Cebrano, He could sing and was a very funny guy.

St. Michael's Cave is used for concerts and they use multi-coloured lights to highlight the cave formations.

We had an enormous "inclusive" tea - we would call it Devonshire Tea.

Some new flavours for Cornish pasties we have never seen before.

We travelled the scenic route along the Costa del Sol through exclusive resorts where the rich and famous holiday. Our journey continued through the green hills to the white-washed village of Mijas, where the donkeys have taxi numbers.
