A sad farewell to Krakow and we will be in three countries
today. So we are on the road through the mountains of Slovakia which was quite
attractive and is a popular winter skiing destination. For lunch we had soup at this quite unusual
Swiss-style chalet. You can see how prosperous the villages are in this area
while in the lowlands it is much less so. We had a comfort stop and we both had
a Streets square block chocolate covered ice-cream, in the style before they
had heart shaped ones.
A castle on the way.
These were newly renovated accommodation for Romany people wh apparently don't look after it. They represnt a major problem in Europe.
We arrived in Budapest at 5.15PM and said a fond farewell to
Krzysztov of our tour guide who seemed upset to leave us – a lovely chap and an
excellent tour guide. We will miss him.
It was 32 degrees in Budapest today!! Our boat was docked
opposite the Parliament building of Hungary which is the third largest in the
world. We checked in and had a buffet dinner with our original cruise buddies. It does seem to be a big advantage of having
been with these people with a week or so before hand. There are 167 passengers and most of these
are Australians with a few Kiwis, Canadians, UK and Americans on board. After dinner there was a night tour of Budapest
on the river that was amazing. The
Parliament building, the Royal palace, monuments and bridges - WOW. Budapest at night has certainly been a
highlight. The buildings and monuments
are very well lit up and it seemed like it was full moon tonight.
WOW!
I checked out the mini-bar…no Baily’s Irish Cream Whiskey- I
am absolutely shattered!!!
