Day 75 5 June 2015 Budapest-Danube-Vienna

While waiting for the practice assembly drill, Elizabeth did 20 laps of the boat and while I sat reading the tourism guides on my lap…so that makes us about even.  We need to be aware of what’s coming up so we don’t miss it.

Above us was the Devin Castle which was destroyed by Napoleon in 1809 after he defeated Austria.  He was attempting to neutralise the defensive protection they had, which explains why I had never heard of the place.

Certainly as you travel the scenery does change.  There were lots of little fishing huts on stilts on the river bank – essentially weekenders. Going through lochs on the river can be time consuming, not that it is a problem, and during the trip we go through 60+.

Early tea tonight (5-7PM) as we are off to the Lichtenstein Palace for a gala performance.  The venue was mildly spectacular and the classical music, short pieces of operas were very good. The performers were very talented, especially the singers and the MC has his schtick down pat.  He reminded us that Vienna was famous for being full of good coffee houses…in German they are called Starbucks.
