If it’s Tuesday it’s Belgium. Its may Day today so Europe stops. Most businesses except for museums and hospitality close. Truck drivers are not permitted on the roads.
This is our final day on the tour as we visit the battle of Waterloo
1815. We visited the new museum, did the panorama which has been improved with
sound and layout. There was an additional 3D glasses experience in another
room. We walked up the Lion Mound again and it was a lot less hot than when we
did it in May 2015. (or so it seemed to me)
The view from the Lion's Mound.
Our group really enjoyed the 4D movie experience of charging horses, cannon balls impacting and musket fire.
We had a picnic lunch
at the crossroads and then headed off around Plancenoit which was fantastic as
we had not previously seen it. We did
see however where we had walked last time but not quite made it. Rod our tour
guide was able to point out which roads the Prussians came down. We then headed
off to Hougoumont to watch their audio-visual presentation.
The battlefield from the French Right flank where the battle turned when the Prussians arrived to save Wellington from defeat.
Our hotel, one of the two Radissons in Brussels, was quite near the
centre of the old town and with our tour buddies, we went window shopping,
mainly for chocolate apparently. There
were many yummy things on display.
We found the Greek quarter which does not explain why we instead found an Italian restaurant and had quite large meals. My calzone was enormous! I previously had had one in Florence but I suspect that this was more authentic, but I say that not because of its size. We said farewell to our tour buddies who were all quite lovely so it was a little sad.
