Day 33 Ring of Kerry 19 May 2018

Today we journeyed to the Ring of Killarney at the same time as Meaghan and Harry were being married.  The coastline is quite attractive although the roads are so narrow that all coaches and buse have to complete the ring anti-clockwise as there is one section that is so tight that these heavy vehicles

At a very windy lookout we could see a well preserved ring fort in the distance.

They even have a beach where people surf.

Here we have where they conduct the sheepdog trial competitions.

They have some festival involving goats.

For lunch we stopped at a little village called Sneem. The owners had been family friends with Maureen O’Hara who had passed away in 2014. This is where we had lovely sandwiches and home made jam and scones.  We saw the room where Maureen would stay and she was originally from Dublin,

Not until our Guinness tour in a few days did we realise the significance of the toucan.

Our tour guide Darren may be someone to stay away from. He has been hit by lightning twice, hit by three vehicles, including a bus. His girlfriend at the time told him to get up as he was creating a scene.

We visited Killarney House and the Gardens which is over the road from the hotel, although only the stables, now converted into the living area after a fire, remain. We had a fabulous three course meal at a local Italian restaurant. Excellent service, huge portions and cooked to perfection. Killarney is an attractive town of 16,000 with beds for 10,000 tourists. It is also a mecca for jaunty rides (a buggy).
Just near our hotel there was ataxi stand full of them.
