Day 23 Edinburgh 9 May 2018

Bus tour of Edinburgh with a population of 500,000 or so. Went part of the way to view Arthur’s Seat a 300 million year old feature. Covered in gourse. Which has lovely yellow flowers that will be dead and brown in a couple of weeks’ time. It is apparently a pest to the farmers,

We had a tour of Edinburgh castle and I had no idea that the spectator area for the Military Tattoo was so small. It was really interesting with a lot of smaller museums and exhibits to see inside.

At 1 PM they fire a canon that historically allowed ships to set their chronometers at the correct time. Being Scotsman they would fire one shot at 1 PM which is a lot cheaper than 12 shots at Midday.

In the afternoon we visited the National Museum of Scotland that was both in an interesting building and well displayed exhibits.

And we got to see Dolly the Sheep, the first cloned animal.

A beautiful city of cherry blossoms which makes it an attractive town. It is relatively compact to get around. We went to the Waldorf-Astoria tonight for dinner. It was beautiful it was called the Galvin Restaurant.  The haggis was nice and the main course of chicken breast which was the best that most of us that had eaten.
