We visited the site of the windmill at Pozieres which has
been described as the no other places is more densely sown as Australian
sacrifice. For me Pozieres had quite an eerie feeling. There was also a monument
to the tanks. We had lunch in Albert but being a Sunday and this being a small
country town, few places were open but we found a French pub and had a couple
of enormous omelettes – yummy.
We visited the Adelaide cemetery and at Villers-Brettoneux we
visited the school but was it was closed and was also undergoing some
renovations but never mind. This was where the firt ever tank to ank battle occured. We visited
the Cairriere-Wellington Museum which is part of the tunnel complex that
largely British and New Zealand miners created.
They put on tin helmet on you and put you into a lift to go 20m
underground. It was quite interesting
and technology was used that helped the presentation,
