Day 47 9 May 2915 Lille-Pozieres-Villers-Bretonneaux-Lille

We visited the site of the windmill at Pozieres which has been described as the no other places is more densely sown as Australian sacrifice. For me Pozieres had quite an eerie feeling. There was also a monument to the tanks. We had lunch in Albert but being a Sunday and this being a small country town, few places were open but we found a French pub and had a couple of enormous omelettes – yummy.

We visited the Adelaide cemetery and at Villers-Brettoneux we visited the school but was it was closed and was also undergoing some renovations but never mind.  This was where the firt ever tank  to ank battle occured. We visited the Cairriere-Wellington Museum which is part of the tunnel complex that largely British and New Zealand miners created.  They put on tin helmet on you and put you into a lift to go 20m underground.  It was quite interesting and technology was used that helped the presentation,
