At 9 AM we moved hotels and left our luggage there. We had to walk about 30 minutes but the roads
were clear being Sunday morning before 10AM.
It seems that Parisians are late starters. We went to The Invalides today which is the
military museum and the highlight was Napoleon’s tomb. They are using technology and for those with
an interest in tanks they had a French Char B on one side of the entrance and a
British Matilda on the other. Which would
win in a tank Battle? Neither.
I will have to write to them as there display has an
error. They have a WW1 New Zealand
soldier’s uniform with their lemon squeezer type hat (similar to the Canadian
Mountie) but slightly different.
Unfortunately they have turned up one side of the hat to make it look
like a slouch hat which they never did.
They are confused between NZ and AIF soldiers and made a strange
amalgam.
We then went to the Musee de L’Orangerie to see Monet’s waterlilies
that are in this huge wrap around gallery.
There were also works by Picasso, Renoir and Cezanne (there were others
but these were the ones I had heard of before.). I can’t say impressionism is my thing. A lot of the female models they used seemed
like they had “man hands”. We got back to the Hotel and then went out for a
simple tea.
This was our first day without a tour group and no one to hold our hands - it felt great! We negotiated our way around without too many problems.
