Today we hopped on the Big Red Bus that took us to the Arch
de Triomphe we had to wait a bit and there was a very brisk wind before it
opened where you can climb to the top. We
didn’t think there would be that many stairs but with 284 spiral staircase, in
sometimes quite dim light. It was warmer on top than below, unless we were more
protected or the wind had stopped. There were some lovely views of the city. It may not have been windy but it was cold.
After that we booked a river cruise on the Seine, had
morning tea by the river and hopped on the boat at 1.30PM. The cruise was quite special, the commentary
abysmal which we abandoned and went on top instead. We had some good views and they showed us the
smallest apartment in Paris. It was raining at the end of the cruise but it let
up after about 10 minutes.
We now visited the Musee de Orsay and surprisingly there was
quite a line to get in even at 4.10 PM. At 4.20 PM they announced that they
wouldn’t be allowing anyone to enter after 4.30PM, I didn’t think we would make
it in but we did by two minutes. The
museum is a converted train station and provides quite an interesting space. Elizabeth
was so impressed with so many masters of impressionism in the one place but the
art wasn’t really my thing. Time
permitting we could come back but we can’t cover everything.
